Raul Castro replaces economy minister to oversee its reforms

Cuban President Raul Castro, made a further adjustment in their government to replace the Minister of Economy and Planning, Marino Murillo, to focus on “monitor” the implementation of economic reforms , state television reported.
The State Council of Cuba agreed to “liberate” Murillo’s position he held since 2009 to promote Minister of Economy and Planning Adel Izquierdo Rodriguez, who served as first deputy minister of that portfolio, according to an official note the information contained in the Cuban television.
The memo indicates that Murillo’s “coordinator” of the Economic Policy Committee of the Sixth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), to be held next April, and “has been charged with overseeing the implementation of measures associated with the update Cuban economic model. ”

As the newly appointed minister, Adel Izquierdo Rodriguez is an engineer of 65 who has gone through several positions, including head of the Department of Planning and Economy in the Ministry of Revolutionary Armed Forces.
This new government move adds to a long list of changes that General Castro has done in his cabinet since he took office as head in February 2008, though it was acting head of state since July 2006 when his predecessor and ill older brother Fidel Castro.
